Key Features

Cap small (mostly broad), usually with a central depression. Cap dark brown to tan or dull orange. Gills few and widely spaced, running down the stalk. Gills thick, shallow, blunt, often connected by veins. Stalk slender orange to yellow when fresh. Stalk hollow at maturity (and often when young). Other Features: Cap not sticky or slimy; gills yellowish to orangish in some forms, grayish to brownish or violet-tinged in others; stalk often fading; veil, ring, and volva absent; spores white to yellowish.
